The Vardhaman Mahaveer Open University was rechristened from its erstwhile name – Kota Open University into its present name by virtue of the notification issued by the Government of Rajasthan on 21 September 2001. The University was constituted in 1987 and is headquartered in Kota. The University was constituted to fulfil the rising needs of a distance education in the state.
